Try a worked example
A rectangle selects every active fruit inside it, not just its corners. Cleared spaces contribute nothing. Start with a short row or column, add all the visible numbers, and read the target again after each successful selection.
The target is 10. A two-by-two rectangle contains 3 and 7 on the top row, with 1 and 2 below. Can you select the whole rectangle because its top row adds to 10?
Check the answer
No: the full rectangle totals 13. Select only the top row for 3 + 7 = 10. The next target becomes 8, then 12, then 10 again. A pair that was valid for the previous target may now be wrong.
Two ordinary fruit earn 200 at ×1. If one is a lemon, the same two-fruit move earns 450: (2 × 100 + 250) × 1. Consecutive correct rectangles raise the multiplier to a maximum of ×5. A wrong sum resets it. Prefer a verified small sum to a large rectangle you have not fully counted.
